Feature and Follow Friday #3 {How do you write your reviews?}

6:17 PM

Feature Follow is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee at Parajunkee's View and Alison at Alison Can Read.

This will give everyone the opportunity to not only gain followers, but also meet more bookish people and share the book love!

*For those who would like to follow me (thank you!), please do so through either GFC or Bloglovin'! I will make sure to follow all of you!*

This week's question, as suggested by Blue Books and Butterflies is:

How do you write your reviews?

I started blogging around 6 months ago and when I wrote my first review I didnt really have a specific format in mind other than just spilling out my thoughts onto the post and just going with it. I've seen quite a number of bloggers who use some different formats and I have considered changing my own. I even tried it out on a recent review. However, while I was trying to write another one for a different book with the same format, I realized that it just wasn't going to work. I might try something else in the future, but for now I'll just stick to the spilling-out-my-thoughts format.

How about you guys? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. That's pretty much how I do it too! Spill it all out! I try for some structure, talk a little about plot and pacing, characters, romance, storybuilding and worldbuilding. What I liked and didn't like. And pretty much lots of gushing!

    Here's my Follow Friday

  3. I use to just wing it but have recently decided on trying a format. Only done one like that, hopefully it works for me. Winging it isn't doing it. I always seem to have trouble putting my thoughts into words.

    1. Writing reviews can be tricky! Especially since not all books can be reviewed in the same exact way. I hope it works for you too!

  5. I kind of just spill everything out too, but I try to stick to the same key points: character, plot, cover and overall impression.

  6. I guess spilling out your thoughts usually works best, I'd suppose? :)

  7. It depends on the book, I guess. Some books I can just rave about, and others I usually have to consider plot, characters, world-building, writing style, etc...

    1. Exactly. That's why I find it hard to stick to just one way of reviewing books. It doesn't apply to every one.

  11. I just write out my thoughts on a book... there's no specific way I really write a review. The only thing I do worry about is making a review too long. Book reviews don't really seem to get that much attention (at least mine don't) - and so I always worry that longer reviews will put even more people off.

    1. I agree! When it comes down to it, quality is more important than quantity.

  12. I'm a new blogger/reviewer too and I have found that it's definitely easier to write each review with a unique voice. No two books are the same, after all! :)

  13. I tried to change mine, too, when I saw others with different review formats and it also didn't work for me. I just write what I want to.
