Synopsis:

Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered.

This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland--known as The Death Shop--are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild--a savage--and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile--everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

Review:

I had picked up Under the Never Sky, when my dystopian kick was in full swing. Up until that point I guess I wasn't reading books with the reviewer mind set that I now have. Meaning that I didn't really think too much of it other than it being a good book. Now, that I look back, I realize just how, not good, but amazing this book/ series is.

The thing about this whole series is that its unique. I mean, we can all agree that with more and more dystopian books coming out, everything seems like a copy of a copy of a copy. And that does not necessarily mean that a book is bad. It simply means that it doesn't really wow me. Under the Never Sky manages to stand out in the midst of so many similar books and I think that deserves a gif.

This book really took me by surprise and before I knew it I was reading the third book not wanting it to end. The story has everything. And I mean everything. Starting with the outstanding characters that were so fantastically articulated and written. Each one was authentic and overall interesting to read about because they were all so different from each other. Aria was definitely not my favorite heroine at first. She could be a bit spoiled and whiny, but considering how different her lifestyle used to be before she met Perry I could understand why she was the way she was at first. The good thing is that character development happens and she then becomes a really awesome character. Perry, the male lead was just freaking awesome and bad-ass. And no, I'm not just saying that because he was dangerously swoon-worthy. He was a bad boy with a soft side who actually cared a lot for people and for his community and he went out of his way for everyone. And I'm sure most of those who have read the series agree with me!

The romance between them was overall really good. Not the best, but good nonetheless. It wasn't cringe or boring or tacky. It was sweet and cute and it really warmed my heart. I couldn't get enough of them. It doesn't end there though. There were other side characters who were just as significant as the main two and I appreciated how the author made them present in a great part of the story without loosing focus of the main two.

On other matters. The sci-fi elements in this book were on point. More of them came from the Aria side of things and I thought they were awesome. Super advanced high tech stuff that really grabbed my attention. There's also tons of action and wit and funny moments as well as sad ones. Not to mention all the unexpected plot twists that had me all like:

I loved how it was all incorporated into the story and how each aspect balanced out the other. This whole series is just a total thrill ride.

If you want a good and enthralling series you can marathon, then I suggest you opt for this one. It's different and well-written.

  1. I'm glad you liked this book too!
I loved the first book so much, but the second book was quite a disappointment. I read it long ago, so I don't remember much of the book(s).
    GREAT REVIEW!

  3. I really enjoyed this one as well! The characters were wonderful, and I loved the romance. It was sweet and powerful. There's no simpering maiden or a domineering man, it's just love and it's perfect. I loved the idea of the senses and the Aether and the storms and everything. I wish we saw more of the pods though... Lovely review!
