Review: "A Million Suns" by Beth Revis

9:05 AM

Synopsis:

Godspeed was once fueled by lies. Now it is ruled by chaos.

It’s been three months since Amy was unplugged. The life she always knew is over. Everywhere she looks, she sees the walls of the spaceship Godspeed.

But there may be hope: Elder has assumed leadership of the ship. He's finally free to act on his vision—no more Phydus, no more lies.

But when Elder learns shocking news about the ship, he and Amy race to discover the truth behind life on Godspeed. They must work together to unlock a mystery that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier. Their success—or failure—will determine the fate of the 2,298 passengers aboard Godspeed. But with each step, the journey becomes more perilous, the ship more chaotic, and the love between them more impossible to fight.

Beth Revis catapulted readers into the far reaches of space with her New York Times bestselling debut, Across the Universe. In A Million Suns, Beth deepens the mystery with action, suspense, romance, and deep philosophical questions. And this time it all builds to one mind-bending conclusion: They have to get off this ship.

**Since this is the second book i this series I'm going to write a little overview of what I thought about it. I'll keep it very brief and vague for those who have yet to read the series. Then I'll get into more of a discussion-y  type of review.**

Review: (Non-spoiler)
This series OMG!!! I am completely in awe. This second book was amazing. It was as fast paced as the first book and equally as epic. Or maybe a bit more? There was so much action and quite a few plot twists. It was thrill ride and page-turner in every sense of the word. I also really appreciate the fact that it was a really "strong" sequel as opposed to many other series that seem to have a sort of "filler book" feel.

Review: (Spoiler)

Here are a few of the things that I feel the need to mention:

  • Chaos. There was so much chaos it was crazy. I felt bad for elder even though he did annoy at some points. But really it was so disastrous. Plus having the shipborns still not accept Amy was definitely not helping. It frustrated me so much I wanted to punch someone.

  • The "patch killer" (let's just go with that name). It was so freaky how all of a sudden there is someone dead, covered in those green patches with the words "follow the leader" written all over them. What was even freakier was how it turned out to be Doc. I was like WTF. I actually thought it was Luthor.

Which brings me to my next point:

  • I hated Luthor. Whenever he was around I could feel my blood boiling. I don't think I have ever hated a fictional character so much in my life. I honestly did not feel any sympathy for him when he was found dead. I'm not saying he deserved it, but I'm not saying he didn't either. Trying to rape Amy and actually raping Victria is inexcusable. And I was so shocked when Victria tells Amy she was pregnant. I almost teared up. I actually felt bad for Vicria even when she sort of betrayed everyone. I don't think she did it to betray, I think she was just blinded by her love for Orion. She didn't deserve to die in my eyes. And even though Luthor did die, I still feel like he deserved some sort of punishment before-hand. Which makes me angry at Amy for not telling someone sooner.

  • Now, Orion. I felt a strong hate towards Orion at the beginning. Now I'm not so sure thatt I hate him all that much. Unfreezing the bodies and leaving them to die was terrible, but I don't think he did it just because. Also I think the way in which he made the clues lead to the next was brilliant. Or should I say, brilly.

  • I also wanted to mention a couple random things. First is how the had that library thing on board and how they mention books from Earth. And the second thing, is how sad it made that Harley wasn't there anymore. If only he had known about the planet.

Awesome awesome series! Seriously people, read this series!

  1. I kind of skimmed your review because I haven't read this book and I really want to, but I just wanted to let you know that I read your "About" page and I LOVE The Mindy Project and was going to start watching Gilmore Girls this week! So glad I stumbled upon your blog! It's really nice :)

  2. This book was indeed amazing! I could not put it down. I think I read like almost all of it in one day, which for me does not happen a lot. I thought it was even better than the first book :D
There are so many crazy things going on on-board this ship... The whole society is just screwed basically :P Haha. Still, I loved all the twists and turns and to see how it all went crazy one more time ;)
